New Years Resolutions

(Courtesy of WeHeartIt)

I know you may be thinking Christmas is still 12 days away and how could I possibly be thinking of New Year's Resolutions before Christmas Wishlists. If I made Christmas Wishlists, it would basically have everything little thing I find on the internet on a daily basis, AKA: TOO MUCH STUFF. So, I figure why not knock some New Year's Resolutions out of the park.

-Be more positive. I'm not a COMPLETELY negative person, but like most human beings, if one things goes wrong, I'm ready for the whole wall to come tumbling down.
-Stop biting my nails. I think this is one of my only dirty habits I've had since birth. Yes, I was a thumb-sucker, but luckily I broke that habit when braces entered my existence in elementary school. I would love to have pretty hands, and not ones that look like I stuck my finger nails in the garbage disposal.
-Invest in more statement pieces. I love majority of the clothes in my closet. I just want a few more statement, as well as basic pieces, to give me a more versatile wardrobe.
-Be nice to my hair. I have been DYING for long lock for the past few years now. I really want to start treating my hair better, and find ways to get my hair to a state where I can let it air dry and it looks pretty.
-Land an internship for the summer, as well as get my dream internship for my senior spring. I want an amazing internship. Two of them to be exact. I want everyone to be like "holy crap trade lives with me". So any stylists, magazine firms, or big name brands reading this, I'm your girl ;)
-Finally achieve that rockin' bod. This is my resolution every year since I can remember, especially since the big 2-1 is coming up in a few months, and I just really think it's time to get serious about it.

I have a few more, but these are just the main ones. What is your main New Year's Resolution or Resolutions?

Winter is Here!

Blouse: The Loft; Cropped Pants: BCBGeneration (similar style HERE); Shoes: Steve Madden Bevv; Jewelry: Aldo Bangles, Pearl Stud Earrings.

Blazer: Forever 21 (similar style HERE); Chambray Button Down: BCBGeneration (50% off in stores!!); Scarf: J.CREW; Leggings: American Apparel; Wedge Boots: Vince Camuto; Jewelry: Lucky Brand Tarnished Gold Hoops.

Well, at least what I consider winter is here. It has been between 30-70 degrees Fahrenheit, which anything less than 60 is COLD for this South Florida girl. Tallahassee, you are doing me dirty.... Anywho, the cold weather means layering, and "real dressing" to those individuals. I can't wait to go home for the holidays, and get some more stand out pieces for this winter! And yes, I will be getting more creative with where I photograph my outfits, even though the drapes look quite dapper!

Tips and Tricks for Thick Locks

So, being a bottled blonde (I am PROBABLY naturally a light brown/dark dirty blonde) I have been plagued with thinning hair. For the last year I have had an obsession with having not only extremely blonde hair, but long thick locks as well. Here are a few tips and tricks for a healthy head of hair and faking a little volume.

(Thanks for the hair envy Blake; via Pinterest)

1. Wash your hair as little as possible. I was an every day washer and not only does it fade your hair faster, but your hair is more elastic when wet, and you tend to pull out more hairs with every day washing. Try to wash your hair every 2-3 days, or invest in a dry shampoo you LOVE, which I am currently on the prowl for.
2. If you have damaged hair, apply products. I have had my fair share of dry spells after getting my hair done, and my go-to products for moisture are Aussie's 3-minute miracle conditioner (used every washing) and Moroccan Oil's  leave-in conditioner and oil. I apply the Moroccan Oil products as soon as I get out of the shower and wrap my locks up in my beloved turbi-twist.
3. Try to wear your hair up as little as possible, and if so use bobby pins or snag free hair ties. I wear my hair up a lot because I am quite active, thus the snag from my Goody hair ties was breaking the crud out of my hair. Thanks to a friend of mine I have entered the world of Emi-Jay's! They are stylish, snag free hair ties and headbands, that leave almost no indent in you hair if you decide take it back down! I know I hate the dreaded black hair tie on the wrist in photos, and this cute colors and design make it look like you are wearing a simple cloth bracelet! Absolutely adore these. Oh p.s. don't sleep with a hair tie in your hair. Always sleep with your hair down, no hair ties, bobby pins, clips, etc.
4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It's the already known rule that I don't need to go into detail about, but drink up ladies. H2O will be your BFF for the rest of your life.
5. Take it easy on the hot tools and use a heat protector spray if so. I have gotten into the habit of blowdrying my hair and skipping the flat iron. Invest in a nice, big round brush and get to practicing! A blow out can make you look like you have voluminous thick hair instantly. Keep your eye out for a video of my blow dry routine in the near future! Maybe even later today ;) As for heat protecting spray, I have only used Tresemme's heat protector spray, and have loved it, so I have not stepped out of the box just yet! Only flat iron if you absolutely have to. I know sometime I like to style my hair at night to sleep in a teeny bit longer, and sometimes my hair needs some slight reshaping in the morning.
6. Another unsaid rule is to get routine trims. You may think, " I'm cutting my hair and when I need to cut it again it will be back at the length I started at! " Wrong. If you go months or years without a trim, you will have split ends up the ying yang, and instead of having to trim an inch or two to rid your hair of damage, you will be looking at a pile of about 6 inches of hair on the floor. Get your hair trimmed. Healthy hair grows faster.

These are just a few things that I have noticed have helped the overall health of my hair. I may never have the ever so perfect hair that adorns Blake Lively's head, but I sure can try!

If you have any suggestions to help with posting more, please suggest :)

Happy Hump Day!

Tresemme Fresh Start is not so fresh.

I am the girl who has to wash her everyday. Not because it gets super oil, but because the slightest bit of oil just really irks me. So, I have been contemplating purchasing these dry shampoos that are at a reasonable price. The only ones I seemed to get my hands on near me were Suave Dry Shampoo (~$3.99) and Tresemme's Fresh Start (~$6.49). I decided to go with the Tresemme Fresh Start, and I was definitely not pleased with the results.

Unfortunately, this product left my hair twice as oily as before application.  After a few quicks spray and giving my hair a quick brush through, it was almost like I had added an oil sheen spray to my hair. I do not have super thick or super thin hair, I'd say it is between thin and medium thickness, but either way I was highly disappointed. I have had several friends rely on dry shampoos since high school, and I hate the mess using baby powder makes. Hopefully I will find a dry shampoo to my liking, and this is also the only Tresemme product I have disliked.

If you all have any recommendations as to what dry shampoos you enjoy using, please comment! Looks like I'll have to open up my wallet a little more when it comes to finding my perfect dry shampoo.

Curling Iron Review

I have gotten questions on other media sites as to how I do my hair. I've decided to do a review on an absolute STEAL. I'm serious though. This beauty is an absolute deal. So, there are several girls in my sorority who have used this iron, one being a girl who just competed in the Miss Florida Pageant. Any who, I had, had a curling wand to create those beautiful Taylor Swift-esque "S" curls, as well as some very old Conair curling irons passed down from my mom, and my beloved 1" straightener that can curl hair as well. It was until I asked my fellow Alpha Phi sisters what curling iron they used. A TEN DOLLAR 1" Conair curling iron from Walmart. That's right, ONLY $10.

This iron has 25 heat settings. I have only used it on the 25th setting and the results are amazing. I have used the iron in its traditional manner by using the clamp and also have used it like you would a wand. Using this tool as a wand is my preference. Here are the results using it traditionally:
And the results using it like a wand:

I absolutely love this little gem. I noticed that using it like a wand creates all day curls vs. using it traditionally, my hair fell flat quite quickly. I did walk into Walgreens one day hoping to pick up a few things, and the 1 1/4" iron was on sale for only $10! Which it is normally $20, so obviously I had to get it.

I plan on doing a tutorial in the near future, I've just be ridiculously busy.

Happy Blogging!

On the hunt

So I'm looking for a new foundation. I was always a MAC studio fix girl, but I found it to be extremely orange and thick on my skin so I moved on to Makeup Forever. The quality of this foundation is GREAT, and gives me great coverage. It goes on very light, and I never feel like my face is cakey. However, I do not like the way it looks on my skin. I'm trying to find a more dewey, glowing look, and makeup forever leaves me very matte. I am contemplating try Chanel Vitaluminiere Liquid Foundation, as well as Bare Minerals. I know bare minerals is a powder, and you're probably thinking, "this girl is an idiot, powder will obviously leave her looking matte". I don't mind a matte look, as long as I'm glowing! I feel like Makeup Forever just leaves me very blah looking. It might be because I am a South Florida girl currently living in Tallahassee, and I'm in desperate need of a tan.

So please. I need some advice/recommendations on foundations! I do like a medium-full coverage due to some small scars from being an acne picker. I don't want it too thick but not too thin. I almost feel like the goldilocks of foundation. Please help a fellow female out :)

So I just realized two of my outfits never posted from polish week! I wore a super cute tribal shift dress and heels on one of our dressier days. On a more casual day I wore a jean maxi, floral button down, gold belt, and wedges. Here's the kick about the second outfit. It's from OLD NAVY! And even better it was 50% off! So my $16 skirt and $12 blouse were less than the $40 dollar gold Banana Republic belt and $40 Steve Madden wedges. I absolutely LOVE sales and steals!

Polish Week

So, I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I am part of a great group of women, Alpha Phi. Right now we are preparing for formal recruitment next week, aka polish week. We basically need to dress "snappy casual" all week and look our best. This helps us get use to waking up pretty early, and making ourselves look our absolute best, so we are in routine by the time recruitment week rolls around. Here was my outfit today! I finally remembered to take some pictures, and my little baby Dexter decided to slip in. Maybe next time Rita will make an appearance! And yes, my boyfriend and I named our cats Dexter and Rita after our love of the show Dexter. If you haven't seen it, you need to. NOW. End of story.

Jeggings: American Eagle
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

So, if you have not heard of BirchBox, you should have by now! BirchBox is a monthly subscription (similar to that of a magazine in a way) where you get a little box every month filled with beauty supply goodies. Well, not filled with, but it gives you like 5 samples. I know that sometimes you can read reviews on a product, think you love it, you buy the $45 product, you use it, and you hate it. $45 dollars down the drain right?! Not with this company! It allows you to try various products every month, they pick it for you (you don't get to chose so it's kinda like Christmas/Hannukah/Quanza!), and they ship it to wherever you want it delivered. It's only ten dollars a month and you have the convenience of samples being shipped to you! You can register for the year right away and it's $110 dollars ( so one month free) and you can order a year subscription as a gift for someone too! How sweet?!

I'm so excited! I can't wait for September and my first shipment to get here!

Recent obsession.

Friendship bracelets or bracelets interlaced with a similar fabric. I love how bright and funky they are. They also are a small accessory that bring a lot of spunk to an outfit. Here are some ideas I LOVE.

Thannk you HonestlyWTF for the woven chain bracelets as well as the friendship bracelets tutorial!

July 8, 2011

So, I'm gonna start posting daily outfits. I've been dressing for class lately, and I've been getting compliments, so I'm gonna share with the world wide web :)

The pictures I post after this will be better. I had no one home to take the pic for me, so I had to settle with the webcam. My hair wasn't cooperating today, hence the flower headband and pony tail. I did simple neutrals on my face. Urban decay midnight cowboy rides again, and ELF neutral eye palette for the brown. I was wearing MAC Angel lipstick, but it's not really showing up here. This was just a quick comfy look.

Top-American Apparel
Shorts-Urban Outfitters (they are 100% linen, hence the lovely wrinkles!)
Belt- Banana Republic

Outfit of the day 7/8/11

So i had to take a test this morning, so my shorts got a little wrinkled (wahh :( ) but here's my outfit for today! :)

I went crazy

I came home for about 3 weeks. I'm technically still here having fun my last week being home. I went crazy at the malls. Literally. I don't want to post everything just yet mainly because the lighting is terrible in my boyfriends room back home, and that is where I am currently staying. I'm just going to wait until I am back up at school where I know the lighting is not absolutely wretched.

My main places where the bulk of my money was spent were BCBGeneration and Urban Outfitters. Every other store was probably just a little tid bit of things. Some stores included American Eagle, where I bought two pairs of jeggings. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is to me because finding bottoms I actually like is quite a hassle. I also perused through Banana Republic, Steve Madden, Dillards, Forever 21, American Apparel, and that's all I can think of  off the top of my head as of right now.

This wasn't just useless spending. I needed outfits for rush and what not, and I have also lost about 15-20 lbs., and most of my clothes no longer fit me.

I really took this time off from school and being home to really think of how and where I want to be in the fashion industry. It's going to be hard I know that, and I know I'm going to feel like giving up sometimes, and thinking it might not have been the career path for me. However, deep down it is. I know that I'm going to have to persevere through everything that is thrown out me if I'm going to make it in an industry such as fashion.

That's all for now folks. Ta ta :)

My creative side

So, my mom has held onto a pair of levi's since high school. And what a coincidence that levis's are now the new hit high waisted shorts. Luckily for me, my mom was the same size as me (almost but she had wayyyyyyy bigger boobies!) and I finally grew the courage to snip them!

Unfortunately (even though it benefited me), I destroyed the pocket a little too much, and it showed some of my lady parts. But, after a quick run to the fabric store, I had stitched (very sloppy on purpose) some black lace fabric! Ta-da!! I actually love how they came out! The only thing I might change is I might cut them a little shorter once I lose a little more weight! Right now they hit at a perfect length without showing all the goods (the way most girls wear them!)

May 20, 2011

Oh wow

So I totally forgot I could upload images of the items I purchased online.

My color splash bag:

And my cute new floppy beach hat :

I ADORE both of these items. I had been looking for a hat like this, but the purse I just stumbled upon (not literally). Thank you ideeli for providing me with my two new staple summer pieces :)

I bought some AMAZING pieces today. Two of them I purchased on a website, and will post as soon as they are in my possession. The others I purchased today at the mall for date night on Saturday when my boyfriend comes home from military business. I don't want to give away my new outfit and some surprises I have in store for him, so I will post those Saturday night.

My new Ombre hair.

Okay, Im going to post a picture of myself with my hair before ombre and after. I do not have a picture of when I first got my hair done, but all I'm going to say is my hair is MUCH MUCH MUCH lighter now than it was when I got it done (thank gosh), so take what you see, and multiply by like 100. HAHA!

So, even in that last picture you can still see the difference from brown to blonde. I do like it when it is curled, but that is the only time I like this style on myself. All I can say is Im ready to be a blonde beauty again!

Ombre Review.

Alright so about a week or so ago I decided to turn my EXTREMELY blonde hair into ombre hair. No, I did not do it myself, even though I probably should have. I did get it professionally done, but my mistake was going to someone who had never in their lives done this style, and she even asked me how to spell it.

I'll upload pictures after this post. I posted them on my tumblr ( Anyways, here goes the review.

1. If you are a blonderexic, this is NOT the hairstyle for you. I love everything about being blonde and having blonde hair. A few days after this drastic do, I was ready to return to my golden locks.
2. If you have damaged hair/hair that doesn't air dry very well, again not for you. My hair is used to being styled every day whether it is straightened or curled. Unfortunately, after my new hair do I could no longer wear my hair straight because it was a dark brown to blonde. It was not blended well at all, and the only time it looked good was when it was curly. When it was curly it looked FABULOUS, but i was just not ready for how dark my hair was. Anyways, my hair was used to being styled, so when I did let it air dry it is frizzy and just bleh. I bought B&B sea salt spray (which was fabulous), but because my hair is naturally freezy and poofy, I had a huge head of sea salty-ness, and not the beautiful california waves I was looking for.
3. If you are an extreme blonde, like myself, and you are contemplating this style, I would suggest dying your whole head the color you intend to be the darkest, and then bleaching the tips to however light you desire them. When you bleach the tips do it in random pieces. This will help you avoid the effect of a straight line from the darkest to lightest color. (Oh hey, kind of what i have! >:-/ )I really was aiming for a dark blonde or light brown to extremely blonde (a Lauren Conrad-esque hair style but lighter at the roots), and I ended up having dark brown, almost black, to really blonde. Not what I wanted at all. I had her dye it twice, because the first time it literally looked like all i had was roots.

I mean, I guess if you have any other questions just message me. I should have done this style myself, instead of being down the drain the arm and leg it cost me. However, I was really nervous I was going to mess it up, but In the end, I think I would have done a much better job.  Also, I would have saved like 173 dollars probably. Whatever, you live and you learn!

(**DISCLAIMER** this is a new hairstylist that I just started using recently. She does AMAZING highlights, but if I wanted to ever to an edgy or out of the box hairstyle, I would not use her again. I also live in kind of a hick town right now, because it where the University I attend is located.)

April 21, 2011

I'm really bad at posting things on here.

But that really is not the case. I've just gotten quite busy with end of the year stuff. Once summer hits, I'm really going to make this an every day event!

Ta-ta :*:*

April 14, 2011

Today I tried out the waterfall braid for the first time. I think it worked out marvelously. I like my hair to look a little bit fuller when I braid it, hence the curls. Also, once my hair is a little bit longer, I'm getting the ombre style done. But it's not going to be the traditional super dark to super light, or super crazy colors. I'm going to do a medium to darkish blonde to like super duper blonde. I'm so excited. I can not wait.

April 12, 2011

Starting out.

So my goal for this blog is to post things fashion related. Mainly my daily outfits, and maybe even some current obsessions and inspirations. I tend to dress friends and do hair and makeup for them as well, so I'll more than likely post that as well. This will be mainly for me to post what I love, clothes, and to hopefully show my growth in this industry. Even though I am only a second year college student, my ultimate dream goal is to someday reach the prestige that star stylist Lori Goldstein has achieved.
